Beacon Health System Research Agreement

Transforming health in our community through collaborative research
The University of Notre Dame and Beacon Health System are deeply committed to supporting the health and strength of the local community and beyond. Notre Dame conducts advanced studies that provide actionable insights into today’s most pressing issues, and Beacon provides top-tier patient care to local community members. Separately, their impact is already great, but together, they have the potential to address the region's most critical health challenges.
To advance this capacity, Notre Dame and Beacon have established a research collaborative agreement that will facilitate the establishment and implementation of joint, health-focused research projects that benefit the local community through improved patient care and clinical outcomes.
How to Get Involved
This research agreement provides Notre Dame and Beacon with a clear framework to pursue collaborative research projects that aim to strengthen Notre Dame and Beacon’s existing relationship and accelerate joint clinical research opportunities by allowing Notre Dame to conduct research and coordinate access to clinical settings and Beacon to identify and address healthcare issues through research-based approaches. Projects that address the collaborative agreement’s key focus areas of oncology, health data, and community health will be prioritized.
Notre Dame and Beacon colleagues who are interested in collaborating are invited to complete this Interest Form. This form can be used to propose research project ideas, but it can also be used to request letters of support or collaboration, consultations, and smaller-scale collaborations. Submitted requests are reviewed monthly.
Notre Dame and Beacon aim to leverage these collaborations to competitively pursue and secure external funding to support their ongoing, cutting-edge research projects.
Management Structure
An affiliation management structure, consisting of three committees with equal representation from Notre Dame and Beacon leaders, has been established to strategically oversee and govern all collaborative activities under this agreement.
The Executive Steering Committee, overseen by Notre Dame’s vice president for research and Beacon’s chief operating officer, will set and direct the strategic direction of the collaboration.
The Collaborative Management Committee, overseen by one of Notre Dame’s associate vice presidents for research and Beacon’s chief financial officer, will approve the funding and initiation of research projects and conduct regular progress reviews.
The Operational Oversight Committee, overseen by collaborative directors from each organization, will submit research proposals for approval, provide status reports on ongoing projects, and act as a liaison between oversight committees and research teams.
